World Humanitarian Day is an annual day which is celebrated on August 19 every year around the world by the United Nations to encourage all humanitarians who have worked for the progress of the humanitarian cause and to remember those who lost their lives in working for the humanitarian cause. The primary purpose of celebrating World Humanitarian Day is to enhance the people’s awareness about humanitarian help activities around the world and the importance of global cooperation. History of World Humanitarian Day In 2008, World Humanitarian Day was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations and first celebrated in August 2009. It is celebrated commemorate the death of the Sergio Vieira de Mello and 21 others his fellow who were lost their lives in 2003 in Hotel bombing in Baghdad, in these including the UN’s High Commissioner who are worked as for human rights and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Iraq. The date of August 19 was selected because this is the anniversary date of these people’s death. From over the past decade, the total number of people who are affected has risen by natural disasters, and around 211 million people are directly influenced every year. Especially Women and children are affected because of their continuing efforts with hunger, poverty, insecurity, poor health, and environmental reduction. Every year, there are new and tough challenge arises. For these challenges, more fund and adaptable humanitarian work are required and also need for it more humanitarian work. Humanitarians give life-saving assistance to millions of people around the world. They put their own lives in endanger to help other people in dispute zones and areas of natural hazards. Humanitarians give support to people who are suffered from different world challenges like hunger, gender-based violence, immigrant and displaced people, help for children, and many others like these challenges. The primary purpose of this day is to honor the humanitarian workers who lost their lives or injured themselves in doing their work and to accept the continuing work of humanitarian workers worldwide.
