The Transgender Day of Remembrance is held annually on 20 November to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of Transphobia and also remember transgender community who have been murdered. This day is also known as International Transgender Day of Remembrance. It was started in 1999. Transgender Day of Remembrance was set up in response to the murder of transgender woman Rita Hester. History of Transgender Day of Remembrance Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender woman in 1999, to remember the murdered of Rita Hester a transgender woman live in Allston, Massachusetts. Since its beginning, This day was held on 20 November annually. Smith started this day an international day of action from the web-based project which has slowly evolved in it. In 2010, Transgender Day of Remembrance was observed in more than 185 cities throughout about 20 countries. TDoR is typically a memorial which includes a study of the names of those who lost their lives during the previous year, and this may include other actions also, such as candlelight vigils, art shows, film screenings, food drives, prayers, speeches, and tramps. Although, not every person represented self-identified as Transgender during the Day of Remembrance, and each was the prey of violence based on prejudice against transgender people. Even still, the deaths of those which are based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. Over the last decade, every month more than one person has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudices, due to any other factors in their lives. This action shows no sign of abating.
